Square René-Le-Gall
First, let’s start by discovering the person whom the name of this square pays tribute to. René Le Gall was a communist municipal councilor in this 13th arrondissement. Because he was a communist, he was arrested by the French authorities in 1939, during the German occupation. In 1942, for belonging to the Resistance, he was shot by the Nazi authorities.
This square dates back to 1938. It is the work of the French architect Jean-Charles Moreux. Also called the Jardin des Gobelins, with 3 hectares of land, this square has a neoclassical style.
In addition, it is classified as a historical monument. The square has also been enlarged several times, towards rue Emile-Deslandres and rue des Cordelières.
